D W Lacey completely misses the point when trying to defend Brexit’s latest bad news regarding chlorine washed chicken (HAS July 26).

He neglects to mention that the reason US chickens have to be washed in chlorine is because they spend their entire miserable lives in conditions which means their carcasses are riddled with bacteria.

He also neglects to mention that importing cheap meat reared in squalid foreign factories will also kill British farming and animal welfare as we know it .

I wonder if he would also like to defend the collapse of the pound as a result of Brexit, the country’s slump in economic growth, the shortage of doctors and nurses as our European neighbours look elsewhere to work, the pre-referendum lies regarding NHS funding, the probable multi-billion pound divorce bill and other consequences of the unfolding catastrophe.
