WE consider it a poor editorial decision to publish the picture of Mike Barnett, the man who died trapped in floodwaters in Hessle, near Hull (Echo, July 6).

We understand that his father agreed to the publication, but a decision had to be made by The Northern Echo actually to do so.

The text of the story was strong enough to promote the family's criticisms of the rescue attempt.

Anyone who wanted to see the picture could have been referred to a website.

Is The Northern Echo afraid of standing apart from those parts of the Press which want to appeal to the voyeuristic herd?
