WHEN we had company the other day talk got round to modern home appliances and their usefulness.

When microwave ovens were mentioned we were chided and mocked for not owning one in this day and age.

I won’t say who said we were the only household she knew that didn’t own one (it was our youngest daughter by the way) and that we should get up to date in the 21st Century.

They couldn’t believe it when I said I wouldn’t have one given.

What on earth do people use them for? Have you ever had a steak pie served straight from a microwave? Talk about soggy bottoms.

Absolutely spoilt.

I would sooner eat a pie cold than reheated in one of those things. I know some people use them to thaw out frozen food, make gravy and baked potatoes but that’s nothing that couldn’t be done better and tastier in our trusty New World gas cooker.

By the way does anyone know where we can buy a new toasting fork, ours is getting a bit worse for wear these days?
