I WOULD like to refer to John Merry’s article on Durham County Council’s spending plans (HAS, Mar 25).

I worked for Premier Waste Management.

This was an arm’s length company which ran waste transfer and household waste recycling sites for Durham County Council (DCC).

The company folded after DCC refused to renew its contract.

This left a shortfall of £12m in the pension fund. As a result, our private pension has been severely reduced.

Maybe we would have been better treated if we had a cricket bat?
