WELL, the Football Association has finally appointed Gareth Southgate as the permanent England football manager.

Gareth gets a four year contract at £2 million per year.

I’m glad that we have a manager who has come through the England mill, with his success at England Under-21 level and as an England player.

I am sure many Boro supporters will wish our only Boro captain to win a major trophy via the League Cup every success.

My limited experience of Gareth Southgate is when, as Boro manager, he and his colleagues looked after us when we had a Save Our Steel parade around the Riverside Stadium.

Gareth is a true gentleman and for those of us who can recall Sir Alf Ramsey, another gentleman, then who knows another World Cup could be a real possibility.
