I FEAR that in spite of the comments and praise for the workers on Teesside from the CEO of MGT, contractors may be sought around the EU and not from the UK.
This seems to fly in the face of assurance being made in the press and makes me more and concerned that the same issues that plagued Wilton 11 will also surface for this project.
I trust the unions can tear themselves away from the politics of the Labour party and start to address the needs of their members which is what they exist to do.
We have an abundance of capable and well-trained people in this area looking for work who also make a contribution to the economy, because they and their families live here.
They should be supported by all who strive to make our area better and more economically active. We can only rebuild our damaged industries by investing in our talent and train our own people to provide the skilled workers of the future, rather than abrogating the training process and costs by employing overseas labour.
Investment is not only in plant and infrastructure but also our people and their potential. Local labour first should be our mantra.
