I AGREE with VJ Connor about Jeremy Corbyn (HAS, Aug 20). I also believe that “he is an honest, principled man and a genuine socialist”.

However the elephant in the room is that he doesn’t look right.

He doesn’t look like a future Prime minister, and in today’s celebrity- obsessed culture this is important.

Michael Foot had the same problem. I am old enough to remember when he was castigated for wearing a donkey jacket at a Remembrance Cenotaph ceremony. This garment turned out to be an expensive duffle coat.

There are many more people who support the Labour Party during elections than party members, and the loss of a large number of them could make the party un-electable.
