WITH reference to the story regarding damage caused by heavy goods vehicles following the A1 diversion (Echo, May 27), we have a similar problem in Gilling West.
Our problem is exacerbated by the speed that they pass through the narrow village road, not just from the engine noise, but from the clattering and banging as they hit the stone bridge, which already shows an increase in structural damage.
If there is no viable alternative route, then some type of speed control/ enforcement would help to minimise the problem.
