FURTHER to HAS in Echo 26 May 2016 and the fracking controversy, I would ask the protestors the following questions: Are you a local resident and therefore have a genuine interest?

Have you actually read and understood all of the documents published by North Yorkshire County Council on its website?

Have you read and compared the UK regulations and compared them to the American equivalents?

Do you understand how the UK shale deposits differ from the American ones?

Do you know what percentage of the local population were worried enough to turn out to protest?

Have you a viable alternative energy source to suggest?

Do you understand how to assess and compare risks?

If your answer to any of the above is no then it’s very likely that you have no real understanding of what you are protesting about. It’s probable that your drive to the protest site was more dangerous than fracking.
