THE nature of terrorism is to attack weak points, ie soft targets like restaurants, theatres, clubs and football stadiums where normal, decent people are relaxing and enjoying themselves.

Of their very nature you cannot guard such places 24/7 and even if it were possible to guard a select few that would not rule out the possibility of a successful attack.

In this context anonymity equals invisibility.

Had the scum who perpetrated the outrages in Paris had to take on the might of the Foreign Legion, they would have immediately dissolved into the mucus, slime and excreta of which their characters and motivations were composed.

We are dealing here with people – if you can call them that – who are utterly devoid of remorse, compassion or conscience or respect for human life. For those very reasons they now have the advantage – and I am beginning to wonder if we should now accept the government’s recent proposal to authorise surveillance of emails etc.
