IN the ongoing debate about Britishness we must always remember we are a country that is steeped in tradition.
The opening of Parliament by the Queen and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace are two examples of this. The Trooping of the Colour in Horseguards Parade off Whitehall is another stirring event.
Visitors to Britain are aware of, and greatly appreciate, the staging of these events. Immigrants to these shores are aware that Britain, by and large, is a tolerant country and this has been the case for many years.
We love our traditions but have a proud record on integration.
