IF Joseph Stalin were alive today I have no doubt he would be looking on in admiration as comrade Cameron pursues his relentless policy of creating a one party state.

Silencing the BBC in true Pravda tradition, crushing the unions and bankrupting the main opposition party will receive nods of approval from Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and perhaps even give him some new pointers.

In addition, Mr Cameron is further reducing the effectiveness of the Labour Party through boundary changes, reducing the House of Commons by 50 seats, most of which will be Labour-held, while at the same time creating 50 new Conservative peers, all on a £300-plus daily attendance allowance. He is neatly covering all the angles.

After dealing with those people who have the temerity to claim benefits, Mr Cameron is keeping the masses quiet by promising a living wage in 2020.

An amount, taking into account inflation during the interim period, of not much more value than the current minimum wage.

Finally, when the re-run of the Scottish referendum takes place, with the inevitable result, the Prime Minister will have rid himself of the final thorn in his side.

This is the legacy Mr Cameron will leave our country.
