CHRIS FOOTE-WOOD needs to get a life.
The creation of the Angel of the North is not, in my opinion, a hymn to one man’s ego.
The Angel celebrates the fact that Christianity in the North-East of England shaped our religious beliefs throughout the whole of our Great British Isles.
I am, of course, referring to St Cuthbert and Bede.
Crowds gather 365 days a year from around the country to visit the site and admire its beauty. It is visited by colleges and universities as there is nothing like it any where else in the country.
I do agree with one letter recently that the trees should be pruned back because the view of the structure is becoming less noticeable while travelling north & south on the A1.
As a foot-note I see that far more people visited the Angel last year than the number who voted for Mr Foote-Wood in his bid to become the Mayor of Middlebrough.
David Johnson, Bishop Auckland.
