I’VE just finished reading an article on Ken Wilkinson who, at 97 recalls his exploits as a Spitfire pilot. As one of the lucky ones, he recalls seeing many of his friends and fellow pilots fall out of the sky.

He remarks: “I’m not sure the younger generation really appreciate how close we came to being a suburb of Berlin.”

I’m sure they don’t; neither do our so-called leaders bickering between themselves over unimportant issues.

It is ironic when it takes a 97 year-old war hero to wake you up.
