SOME years ago the so-called pedestrian heart of Darlington was opened with great fanfare.
I have lost count of the number of other towns that I have been to, both in this country and abroad, and I must say that Darlington’s pedestrian centre is the worst that I have seen.
If you go along Low Northgate, Crown Street, Low Row, Skinnergate or Tubwell Row you are in constant danger of being mown down by a bus or some other vehicle.
What is the point of so called pedestrianisation when the town centre is awash with buses, taxis and private cars?
Together with this you also have the strong possibility of being hit by cyclists.
I though it was illegal to ride on pavements.
It is only a matter of time until someone is seriously hurt or killed.
A Day, Darlington.
