IN reply to Malcolm Rolling’s letter about Jungle’s funeral (HAS, June 23), what planet does he live on?

Has he never heard the term ‘doffing your hat’ when a funeral procession goes by. It is a mark of respect to the deceased, whether you knew them or not.

Does he not realise the type of funeral it was? The bikers would have had special permission from the police to abstain from wearing their helmets on this very special occasion.

Also Mr Rolling, what has it got to do with you, or anybody else, what Jungle did for a living?

All he needs to know is that Jungle was held in high esteem by the people of Darlington.

He and his band of loyal friends used to frequent the pub in the town centre many years ago, called the Waterloo, and it was one of the friendliest, safest pubs to have a drink or two in when I was a young man.

Pity Mr Rolling didn’t have the courage to approach one of the many bikers and ask them why they were not wearing helmets. I’m sure he would have received an appropriate answer.

He would have returned to Durham rather sharpish, with his tail between his legs.

Alan Christon, Darlington.
