WE have become accustomed to the public spirit of the people of |College Ward in Darlington over the years, but on Sunday they excelled themselves.

Thirty local people met to collect litter, sweep and gather all kinds of rubbish in Stanhope Park and its surrounding streets. In total, 91 sacks of rubbish were gathered, weighing at least three tons.

On behalf of all of us who live in this lovely part of the town, Councillor Tony Richmond and I heartily send our thanks to everyone who gave up a morning to make the place spotless, with particular gratitude to our stalwart residents, Mr and Mrs Snowden, who organised it all. Brilliant!

Cllr Ian Galletley, Darlington.
