LAST Saturday (7th March) I was in Darlington town centre, when I realised I had lost my blue and yellow striped scarf, a treasured old friend from my college days of 50 years ago.
I retraced my steps in the direction of the rail station without finding it.
Disappointed, I turned round at the A167 to return to my friends in town.
Coming back over the bridge by St Cuthbert's, I was chuffed to punch to see that some thoughtful person had wrapped it around the top rail of a barrier guarding a workman's hole in the pavement.
I am very grateful to whoever saved my scarf.
T Keene, Coventry.
