NIGEL FARAGE is right that Tees Valley Industry will benefit from lower energy prices (Echo, Feb 10), but only some will benefit to any significant extent.

The successful animation and computer games industry in Middlesbrough, Whessoe in its new form and many others need access to something else: good access to capital and long term finance from the banks.

None of the London-based parties can be trusted to do anything serious about reforming the UK's bloated banking industry: compared to GDP it is now proportionally bigger than Switzerland's, bigger than Hong Kong's, bigger than Singapore's. And this despite its serial failure to support and develop the real UK economy.

The North East Party plans to introduce a regional investment bank and credit union which will be a powerful new source of finance to both new and existing businesses in the region. We will give seed corn funding to the bank by replacing council tax with a new fair property tax.
