IN the same edition of your newspaper that I read about the disgraceful sale of Windlestone Hall at a knock down price (Echo, Nov 5), I also saw an advertisement for the sale of the five care homes recently closed by Durham County Council.

Are the council just very poor managers, in which case they are not fit for purpose? Think of the money that could have been generated by the sale of the hall and how that could have been used to keep some homes open.

Finally, I found it so sad that the advertisement, in giving details of size etc, also said these properties were suitable for use as residential care homes.
