IN a recent edition of BBC Question Time there was the inevitable question about immigration.
Three members of the panel saw unlimited immigration as an unmitigated blessing, with the implication that anyone who thought otherwise was ignorant, bigoted or racist, or possibly all three.
And this is no doubt true for the ‘metropolitan elite’.
But, whatever the rights or wrongs are about immigration, many people have a genuine concern about it, perhaps because they have no wish to see England become any more densely populated.
The only political party which seems to be concerned is Ukip (no doubt for its own ends) and my concern is that if the other parties don’t ‘wake up and smell the coffee’ then next year we may find ourselves with Ukip holding the balance of power in a hung parliament.
Do we really want this?
P Elliot, Eaglescliffe.
