I WAS first tempted over to your fine paper by the superior cricket reporting of Tim Wellock – a fine sports journalist and author.
So I was gobsmacked to see him strip Durham of its county status in his write-up on July 30.
As a proud County Durham lad born and bred, I am now informed that I am in “South Northumberland.” Seriously, Tim?
It was bad enough when Maggie Thatcher tried to strip the North East’s major cities of their county heritages, but surely not Tim. C’mon lad.
Tip Crow, Sunderland.
