WILLIAM HAGUE should take a pay cut, not Baroness Stowell who, as leader of the House of Lords, is being paid less than her male predecessor in order to make up Mr Hague’s pay.
Mr Hague stood down as Foreign Secretary to become leader of the Commons, which surely should command a smaller salary.
The fact that Mr Hague remains as Secretary of State, and Mr Cameron’s political deputy, does not affect the issue.
Reducing Baroness Stowell’s salary is simply a case of paying a woman less than a man for doing the same job – surely a breach of the Equality Act 2010 which incorporates the Equal Pay Act 1970.
