WE would need the wisdom of Solomon to know what is the right thing to do about the situation inside Iraq.

If we do nothing the turmoil is likely to get worse.

This will lead to more populations migrating to Europe and all the evils of the world will spill out here, like they did when someone opened Pandora’s box.

If we intervene militarily we should know from recent history that it will solve nothing and make the situation worse than it is already.

It would not be helpful but we can trace the predicament back to the artificial borders introduced by the British and French when the Ottoman Empire collapsed. Now we can expect the genius of US intervention to add to the confusion with British forces being used if they are thought necessary by Washington.

I look with real foreboding on how events are unfolding.

My best guess is to ask Tony Blair for guidance and, when we get it, do the opposite.
