WITH the Tour De France almost upon us, it is great to see so many cyclists enjoying the Dales routes which will soon be challenging the best riders in the world.

Sharing the roads with many of them last weekend, it was apparent that the vast majority were riding in a safe and considerate manner, ensuring the minimum of inconvenience to other road users.

Hopefully, their excellent behaviour will help inform the small number of Bradley Wiggins wannabes who insist on riding through villages four abreast in their own mini-pelotons, displaying no consideration and, indeed, utter contempt for everyone else on the road.

Totally oblivious to the traffic building up behind, they seem intent on enjoying their “race” at the expense of all others, ultimately putting themselves at risk through their inconsiderate behaviour.

The Highway Code sates that cyclists should ride no more than two abreast, perhaps therefore a few of these riders need to re-sit their primary school cycling proficiency test.
