I WAS interested to read about the visit of Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham to his old school (Echo, May 10), when he was re-presented with the Richard Luck Trophy which had been found in a cupboard. The school is now the Darlington School of Mathematics and Science but, in Mr Cunningham’s day – and mine – it was Branksome School. I was presented in 1953 with the Luck Trophy after gaining the highest total marks on completion of a two-year commercial course at the then technical school based in the Northgate building of the Technical College.
I wonder if there are other readers who completed engineering, building and commercial courses who would like to see the trophy again? Could we be re-united with these awards?
I am pleased to say that my training equipped me for a 46-year secretarial career. I also achieved qualifications to enable me to teach shorthand and typewriting – before the days of the computer on which I am now writing this letter.
Patricia Crack, Stapleton, Darlington.
