I FIND David Cameron’s attempt to claim religious credibility for his neo-liberal agenda distasteful.
Clergy of all faiths have denounced the deliberate destitution of the poor by arbitrary withdrawal of benefits at the whim of harassed Department of Work and Pensions staff, obliged to enact a draconian tightening of eligibility criteria by his government. The pious Mr Cameron feels no need to govern in the interest of areas like the de-industrialised North, with its broken pit villages.
The poor are being driven to food banks and into the hands of loan sharks. His concern is entirely for the well-off
