I RECENTLY visited Hawes. The highlights of my stay were a visit to the Wensleydale Creamery visitor centre, attending the special sheep auction on the Monday, and a return trip from Garsdale to Settle on the Leeds/Carlisle railway line.
What a pity my short break was spoilt by one elderley man who runs the stall outside The Old Board Inn.
I was woken by a disturbance outside my room and, when I looked out of the window, and discovered that my car was surrounded by scaffolding making up his stall. I immediately got dressed and went downstairs. What followed was what upset me.
Absolute disrespect from the elderley stallholder who said I was at fault (the no parking sign was placed in the area at 7pm, long after I had parked my car).
After climbing into my car from the passenger side, I moved it across the road to near the town toilets.
Yes, it is market day on Tuesdays but how does a visitor know where to park?
Needless to say, I did not attend the market and left Hawes soon after breakfast.
I won’t be returning.
