SINCE 1990 many organisations, including the BBC, UNICEF and Amnesty International, have all reported people tortured and murdered after being accused of witchcraft.
The belief in witchcraft has led to many atrocities, including the murder of Kristy Bamu in Newham, east London, in 2012.
The matter was raised by the Pope during his African tour in 2009. But instead of condemning atrocities, he declared a “war on witchcraft”.
CT Riley (HAS, Mar 7) demonstrates Christian compassion for the suffering of others and condemns atrocities done in the name of God, while some correspondents, such as Michael Baldasera, demonstrate the opposite.
