THINGS seem to be going from bad to worse at Durham Tees Valley airport, near Darlington (Echo, Mar 11).

A slump in passenger numbers has exacted a terrible toll on the airport. However, instead of trying to attract more budget airlines and adding more flight destinations Peel Holdings is planning to use part of the long stay car park as storage for caravans. It’s becoming a joke.

If EasyJet or Ryan Air are reading this, please save our airport and make it busy again with cheap flights to destinations other than Spain.

If not, I fear a new housing estate will soon be built on the land that we once took off from.
