CELEBRITY chef Jamie Oliver is in no doubt that Swedish cooking is “one of the unsung heroes of the cooking world”. And in Jamie Does… Stockholm, he sets out to prove the point and find the authentic tastes of Sweden.

This is good news for us, but bad news for reindeers. In an old indoor market in the Swedish city, he tries reindeer heart.

Later, he samples surstromming, a fermented herring that smells like a stink bomb and prompts the question, if it smells that bad why would you want to eat it?

He catches a boat to one of the thousands of islands that surround the city to pick wild mushrooms and blueberries.

On this trip, he also makes gravadlax, blueberry buns, creamy mushrooms and roasted beetroot salad.

He heads to the royal palace to see what’s on the guards’ lunch menu before ending his trip at a friend’s crayfish party.

There, he’s happy to join in the drinking songs, but manages to avoid the skinnydipping.

No mention, however, whether he gets to sing a few songs made famous by Swedish exports Abba.

HAVING Angie as a mother must be something of a nightmare.

She’s overbearing, strong-willed and has caused her son, Danny, to be moved from pillar to post for most of his life. The family is currently residing in Wisteria Lane, home of those Desperate Housewives, and his life is one crisis after another.

Despite being in love with Julie and trying to kill himself when she rejected his advances, he now has a new girlfriend and – what a surprise – Angie doesn’t approve of her.

Actually, she might have a point.

Danny is seeing Carlos and Gaby’s wayward niece Ana, although, to her credit, the teenager does seem to have his best interests at heart, something that can’t always be said of his mother.

Meanwhile, Lynette and Tom’s relationship takes a nosedive when she refuses to attend counselling with him, despite the fact they could use some support to help them deal with losing one of their unborn twins.

Elsewhere, Gaby and Susan lock horns over their children – is MJ or Juanita the brightest?

THOSE who recall Charlie Hunnam as the young, fresh-faced teenager exploring his sexuality in Queer As Folk might be shocked by his appearance – long hair, stubble, grubby biker clothes – in Sons Of Anarchy, the US series that’s gaining an increasing audience over here.

Written by the people who created The Shield, this FX original drama is about a violent motorcycle gang (the MC) that protects a small Californian town.

The second series gets under way tonight and it’s not long before the MC has to fight nasty to protect its turf. When white supremacist Ethan Zobelle arrives to open a tobacco store in Charming, he and his associate AJ Weston target the MC because of its long-standing relationships with black and Latino gangs.

Heading the cast is Ron Perlman as Clay, the president of Sam Crow – that’s an acronym of Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original. Underneath a mountain of prosthetic and make-up, he played Hell Boy in two big screen movies, as well as the horrible one in the TV series, Beauty And The Beast.

KATHRYN RAYWARD and Mark Hill offer advice on purchasing more old items as Cracking Antiques continues. But the presenters are amazed that, in recessionary times, people will buy flat-packed furniture rather than investing in quality antiques.

“It’s very strange,” says Kathryn. “People will stand in front of a brand new chest of drawers and say, ‘ooh, I like it and it’s £300’.

“That’s fine, but for some weird reason, put them in front of an antique chest of drawers that’s also £300 and they’re going, ‘ooh, I’m not sure about that. Am I being ripped off?’”

Their task this week is to help Jody and Adrian create a turn-of-the-century look in a room influenced by Victorian and Edwardian styles.
