EVEN the richest folks have been hit by the recession. So we wonder what Grand Designs’ Kevin Mc- Cloud will make of billionaire David Siegel and his glamorous wife, Jackie.
They had a dream to build the biggest home in the US, but the credit crunch threatened their plan for a 90,000sq ft mansion modelled on the Palace of Versailles.
The Storyville documentary Queen of Versailles follows their struggle to save an ailing time-share business and finish building their home, which is bigger than the White House.
While those struggling to pay the mortgage or rent may have little sympathy with the Siegels, it’s hard not to be fascinated by the king of bling, his wife and their eight kids as they try to keep the wolf from their ridiculously opulent front door.
