Believe it or not, there are people outside my door in the newsroom, whingeing about England.

We've played three games in Euro 2012. We've won two and drawn one. We're top of our group. We're in the quarter-finals.

But all I've heard so far is:

* Scott Parker's not good enough at this level.

* We were in the easiest group.

* Ukraine's 'goal' was over the line.

* We've got no chance against Italy.

One bloke - a photographer - actually just said that we would have been stuffed by Holland if we'd been in their group. Yes, Holland! The team who were so bad they've gone home in disgrace.

Most people didn't think we'd even make it out of the group so why can't we just smell the roses for a while?

So far, the England team have acquitted themselves admirably off the pitch and fought hard on it.

Roy Hodgson, who was viewed as a bit of a joke when he was appointed as England manager ahead of the people's choice Harry redknapp, has made all the right decisions. He brings on Theo Walcott - he changes the game. He brings in Andy Carroll - he scores. He brings back Wayne Rooney - he scores.

No one should get carried away but, for goodness sake, let's dish out a bit of credit.
