A MOTORIST who intervened as a thief tried to steal a handbag is being asked to contact police.
A woman was walking on to Marlborough Road from Oxbridge Lane in Stockton at about 8.15pm on Tuesday, November 29 when she was approached by a male who tried to snatch her handbag.
A passing motorist stopped his vehicle and shouted to the suspect, who ran into a rear alley behind Marlborough Road and out of sight. He did not manage to take the bag.
The suspect is described as a white male, around 5ft 7ins tall, with a gaunt appearance and light coloured hair. He was wearing light coloured trainers, dark bottoms, a dark jacket, black gloves and he had an orange hood up which was possibly white inside.
The motorist, who was driving a grey people carrier, or anyone with information, are asked to call police on 101.
