A youth football competition in Hartlepool has kicked off its sixth season of matches but it’s not too late for teams to enter.

The Grayfields Street Leagues which are run by the Borough Council’s Sport and Recreation Service, is looking to attract new players.

The competition is open to both boys and girls and comprises leagues for teams of under-10s, under-12s, under-14s and under-16s. There is also coaching for under-8s.

Matches take place every Friday from 6-9pm on the all-weather pitch at Grayfields recreation ground, off Jesmond Gardens, and will continue until next March.

COFFEE MORNING: The Second Youth Group at Eston Sports Academy held a coffee morning to raise funds for Teesside Hospice on Friday, September 6. The event included a raffle, cakes, tombola and coffee and successfully raised £1,400. Despite the floods and travel problems, everyone banded together to make the day a success.

FASHION SHOW: Bonmarche Store Redcar is holding a Fashion Show in aid of the Friends of Redcar Cemetery on Wednesday, October 16 at 7.30pm in the Cricket Club, Kirkleatham Street. There is plenty of parking available. Tickets are limited so call 01642-478349 to book a seat. There will be a raffle and tombola.

HEALTHY PETS: FREE health checks for dogs will be on offer again next week when the PDSA visits Hartlepool. The service – open to all irrespective of their circumstances - will be provided in a different part of the town each day from Tuesday, October 8 until Friday, October 11.The checks will be on offer from 9am-4pm each day at Rift House Recreation Ground, off Kingsley Avenue on Tuesday; Seaton Carew coach park on Wedensday; Thornhill Allotments on Thursday; and Summerhill country park on Friday. Free dog micro-chipping will also be available at each venue, with the microchips being supplied by another national charity, the Dogs Trust.
