A DOMESTIC abuse charity is set to take centre stage tomorrow (Wednesday, September 11) night when staff and volunteers receive a lottery prize in front of millions of television viewers.

My Sister’s Place, a Middlesbrough-based charity which provides specialist support, advice and access to services for women who have suffered domestic violence, will be on the National Lottery Stars 2013 programme on BBC One at 10.30pm.

Staff and volunteers travelled to London for the bash at the Pinewood Studios, where they mingled with the likes of Duncan Bannatyne, Len Goodman, Lisa Riley and X-Factor star Jahmene Douglas during the ceremony hosted by TV star John Barrowman.

Becky Rogerson, the charity’s chief officer, said: “We are quite a small organisation so we feel very privileged that the public have recognised the important work we do with victims of domestic violence and voted us their favourite Lottery funded Voluntary Project.

“The support we get from the National Lottery is invaluable and helps us campaign for and support women who have suffered domestic abuse.

"I would like to personally thank all our staff and volunteers for their commitment to this work and their passion for keeping women and children safe.”

A short film featuring a surprise visit to the Middlesbrough charity by X-Factor finalist Jahmene Douglas will also be shown.

Jackie O’Sullivan of the National Lottery Good Causes said: “My Sister’s Place is a deserving winner in their category and National Lottery players can be justifiably proud that they fund and support such a fantastic organisation.”
