A FULL timetable has been announced for the east coast main line ahead of industrial action by the union for rail workers.

Virgin Trains says it will run a full timetable during the 48 hour walk-out which starts on Friday, April 28.

Members of transport union RMT are striking because of a row over staffing, with the union seeking assurances that a new position of train manager will retain safety-critical roles and training currently held by train guards.

Virgin wants a single person on each train to take overall responsibility for customer experience, which it says will have “zero impact” on safety.

David Horne, managing director for Virgin Trains on the east coast described the strike as “pointless”.

He said: “I’m pleased to announce that we will be able to run a full timetable during the RMT strike, and would like to reassure customers that they can plan and book their journeys as normal and with confidence.”

The on-board changes came into effect on March 31.
