POLICE have identified a driver who was killed in a crash near Stokesley.

Elaine Florence Teasdale, 33, from Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough died in an accident on the A172, close to the town’s swimming pool, on Tuesday, April 29.

The collision involved a silver Peugeot 206 car travelling towards the A19 and a white Vauxhall Vivaro travelling in the opposite direction.

Those living near the scene of the accident reported being able to see black smoke and flames from the crash scene across a field.

An inquest into Ms Teasdale's death was opened and adjourned on Tuesday, May 6.

It is the latest in a number of recent serious accidents on the A172.

In March six people were injured following a crash between a car which was travelling out of Ingleby Cross and a minibus travelling towards Stokesley at the crossroads. A 90-year-old passenger in the car was left seriously injured.

In January this year a man in his fifties from the Cleveland area died after the car he was driving overturned on the A172 slip road to Stokesley near the A19.
