A COUNCIL in Wales has had to change its streetlights because they were interfering with the mating habits of local glow worms.
The bright sodium bulbs were tempting away the male glow worms which were supposed to be copulating with the females in Llandudno. When a local biologist noticed that the males were congregating beneath the streetlights rather than getting intimate with the females, she asked the local council to intervene.
Now LED bulbs have been installed in the lights, the males are back with the females and the glow worm population is booming.
