A village featured in the novels of Thomas Hardy has withdrawn from a tidy village contest because the council no longer cuts the grass.
People living in Owermoigne, in Dorset, were hoping to bid to be Dorset's Best Kept Village of 2015 but withdrew their entry, claiming the village has been turned into a wilderness, with grass growing 5ft tall.
Hardy called Owermoigne Nether Moynton in his novels.
