The Snow Bear, The Witham, Barnard Castle on Saturday, 1.30pm
A treat for children and their families with this seasonal storytelling show inspired by Norwegian folk tales. The Snow Bear features live music, songs, puppets and a beautiful travelling theatre packed full of delights. It tells the story of a polar bear who is taken away from his arctic home and of his adventures with mischievous elves, goblins, trolls and a friendly Tomten who helps him find his way back.
All the characters are brought to life with mesmerizing storytelling and original music played live on cello, tuba, accordion and ukulele. This intimate, Scandinavian themed show is packed with adventures and lots of audience involvement and children are invited to bring along their favourite teddy – so every seat will be filled twice.
Embracing the themes of conservation, trust, care and responsibility for animals and the season of Winter, the show enjoys the magic of participatory songs and the telling of traditional stories. So much to take away!
The show was created by storyteller Chris Bostock and musician Ken Patterson and brings together an experienced creative team from the north east - Alison Ashton (set design), Alison McGowan (puppets) and Jon Codd (miniature theatre design) – and is supported by Arts Council England.
