POLICE are appealing for information following a sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl.
The incident took place in Springwell Village, Washington, on Wearside, at about 9pm, on Tuesday (July 14).
Detectives believe the girl was approached by a man who touched her bottom over her clothing before making off from the scene, in the Meadowfield area of the village.
The suspected culprit is described as white, aged approximately 50, of slim build. He was wearing a burgundy long-sleeved top at the time.
Sergeant Wayne Sinclair, of the Washington’s neighbourhood policing team, said: “We’re asking the local community to contact Northumbria Police with any information relating to this inquiry.”
Extra patrols are being carried out in the area and anyone with information is asked to contact the force, on 101, extension 69191, quoting reference 1323 140715, or Crimestoppers anonymously, on (0800) 555111.
