A MANHUNT has been launched after a man charged with robbery and burglary escaped from security staff at a magistrates court.

Russell Frankland, 40, is being sought by police after escaping from security staff at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court, Northway, at 4.45pm on Thursday (December 4).

He had appeared before magistrates and charged with robbery and burglary, which were committed in the North Yorkshire seaside resort last month.

He escaped from guards after being remanded into custody to appear at York Crown Court on Friday, December 19.

Frankland is described as white, 6ft tall with a medium build and brown hair.

Detectives believe he may, he also has links in the Rochdale area of Lancashire.

Detective Inspector Paul Healy issued a warning to anyone helping to shield Frankland from the police that they could face prosecution.

He said: “Russell, if you see or hear this appeal, I want you to hear this clear message.

"We are going to catch you and return you to custody. "Hand yourself in now, by remaining at large you are only delaying the inevitable and making matters worse for yourself.

“I am also appealing to anyone who sees Frankland to contact the police straight away.”
