AMELIA and Jack are the most popular baby names in the North-East, according to statistics revealed today (August 15).
According to the Office of National Statistics, Amelia is the top name for girls both regionally and nationwide and has been the most popular name since 2011.
In the North-East, Amelia is followed by Olivia and Ava while Oliver and Harry make up the top three for boys.
Names more popular in the region than elsewhere include Ella, Scarlett, Alfie and Joseph with Poppy rising quickly into the top ten, having been 43rd nationwide in 2003.
Statistics also suggest television shows are influencing parents, with the Game of Thrones inspired Tyrion being the moniker of six babies named recently.
Girls are more likely to have a unique name, with 35,000 different names for them compared with 27,000 for boys in the UK.
