A CYCLIST was slashed across the face with a piece of glass during an attempted robbery that left him needing hospital treatment.

A man and a woman reportedly attacked the 45-year-old as they attempted to steal his bike and other possessions.

They eventually fled empty-handed after the incident, which happened at around 3pm on Thursday, March 23 outside the Old Moor pub in Oxbridge, Stockton.

A 34-year-old man from Stockton has since been charged with attempted theft and assault and has been remanded in custody ahead of a court hearing expected to take place on Friday, May 4.

Police are currently attempting to trace two potential witnesses, who spoke to the victim after the attack at the junction of Dovecot Street and Ewbank Drive.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police appealed for them to come forward, saying one was a man in his 20s wearing a grey tracksuit and the other appeared to be in his late 40s or early 50s and was wearing dark trousers and a black jacket.
