A NEW position will help to preserve the history of the Globe Theatre in Stockton as its restoration continues.

Sophie Owens has taken up the post of Heritage Learning Officer, which will involve leading a range of activities and events focused on the Globe and the history of entertainment across the Tees Valley.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, she joins the restoration team having previously taught photography at Cleveland College of Art and Design and carried out various periods of charity work as a clothing bank coordinator and charity shop manager.

Ms Owens said: “I am really looking forward to exploring the Globe’s history and heritage while inspiring communities across Stockton and the wider Tees Valley to learn about heritage through their interest in the Globe.”

Some of the activities she will lead include hard hat tours of the Globe, photography and oral history recording and a new heritage trail that explores Stockton as a music and dance town.
