AN ELDERLY woman has died after suffering serious injuries in a house fire today.
The woman, in her 80s, was flown to the burns unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle, after firefighters rescued her from a blazing house in Redcar just after 10am.
She was initially treated by paramedics before being taken to the waiting Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter.
Fire broke out at a house in Egton Close, Redcar, and the woman was rescued from her home by firefighters using breathing apparatus.
Three fire engines from Stockton, Grangetown and Middlesbrough were also at the scene.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A woman aged in her 80’s has sadly died following a fire at a house on Egton Close in Redcar just after 10am this morning.
"The woman was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, however, she passed away this afternoon. The fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time
