AN elderly woman was dragged to the floor and left injured after a cyclist snatched her handbag in the street.

The 82 year old victim and another elderly woman were walking in Norton, near Stockton, at the junction of Derwent Street and Norton Road, walking in the direction of Victoria Avenue, at about 7.30pm on Sunday, May 14 when the incident took place.

A man riding a bike grabbed the woman's handbag, dragging her to the floor and leaving her with minor leg injuries.

The suspect made off on the bike with the bag, which contained £55 in cash, a mobile phone and purse.

He was described as a white male, aged in his 20s, over six ft tall with a fair complexion and short, fair hair. He was wearing a dark hooded top.

Officers believe there may be a number of people who witnessed the incident who have not yet come forward, including two teenage girls who were believed to have been at a nearby bus stop at the time of the incident.
