A CHARITY behind one a North-East white water sports facility have earned regional recognition for their work towards the centre.
The Canal and River Trust, that support the Tees Barrage in Stockton, received the People’s Choice Award at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North-East Robert Stephenson Awards ceremony for 2017.
The awards honour engineering excellence in the region, with the Tees Barrage and Gateshead’s Millennium Bridge both hailed as part of the ICE North-East 125-year anniversary celebrations.
Mike Marshall, customer operations manager at the Canal and River Trust, said: “As well as the day-to-day running of the Barrage and the River Tees, our team has been working with some brilliant local volunteers to help transform the waterscape at the Barrage to create a place the local community can enjoy.”
Mr Marshall accepted the award from ICE’s president, Professor Tim Broyd, alongside colleagues, Stuart McKenzie, Lee Butler and David Crane.
