A PROFESSIONAL dancer and choreographer born in Bolivia has been training young Teesside dancers.
Yuvel Soria has been working with teenagers at Macmillan Academy in Middlesbrough as part of project organised by Billingham International Folklore Festival (BIFF)
Seven young dancers aged between 11 and 17 years old have worked with Mr Soria in the creation of a contemporary dance piece with traditional Bolivian and South American dance as inspiration.
The theme this year’s BIFF is titled Encounters and focuses on people with different backgrounds and techniques all performing together and the students have produced a five-minute routine.
Yuvel Soria, said: “The young people have responded very well. They are interested in learning new things and trying different styles. We have been working intensively on this new piece for the festival.”
Skye Mills, aged 11 of Macmillan Academy, said: “I’ve really enjoyed the residency especially the warm up exercises and the breathing techniques. Yuvel is an amazing choreographer.”
